What is RHI and are you eligble?

The Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) is a Government Funded scheme designed to financially reward those who use renewable energy to heat their buildings.

Are you eligble for RHI?

The domestic Renewable Heat Incentive aims to help consumers produce heat in a more eco-friendly way, by offering Government tariff payments to those who heat their homes using renewable technologies.

Ofgem has announced that in order to be eligible for the domestic RHI scheme, applicants need to be either:

• An owner/occupier
• A social landlord
• A private landlord
• A self-builder
• A third-party owner of a heating system

The domestic RHI scheme is for heating systems for single properties only. If there is a renewable heating system supporting more than one dwelling, such as a block of flats, then residents or landlords may be able to apply for the non-domestic RHI scheme. New build properties are not currently eligible for RHI payments (unless they were self-built), however they might be included in a future update of the scheme.

Although the scheme was designed to help households that are off the gas grid (whose heating bills are typically higher than those on the gas grid), it will also be available for those with gas-fired heating systems that want to start producing renewable heat for their homes.
